How to Repair Damaged Hair: Five Steps to Repairing Damage

The Five Habits of Healthy Hair You Should Adopt

The road to healthy is paved with products, potions, protein, and deep conditioners... oh my! If your hair is fried or suffers from split ends, sun damage, tangles, and broken brittle pieces, it's time to take charge of your hair's health. It's easy to forget that our hair can be very fragile. Exposure to the sun, hair dryers, flat irons, and even daily brushing can take it's toll and leave you wishing for a time machine. It's important to remember that repairing damaged hair won't happen over night, but over time developing these habits will aim you down the road to recovery.

 De-Gunk Your Tresses
The products we use and even the water we use to remove the products we use, can cause your hair to have a less-than-healthy sheen. Build up is a serious issue with hair and can cause it to be limp, lifeless, and even cause your ends to be split and feel brittle. Getting this built up gunk off your hair is the first step in repairing damage and having healthier hair. A good clarifying shampoo, a baking soda clarifying, or an apple cider vinegar rinse are great options for removing product build-up, hard water deposits, and mineral build-up on your hair. How often you need to remove build up really depends on the products you use and the water coming out of your tap. Most people could use a clarifying treatment at least once a month.

Protect Your Hair from Sun Exposure
One of the biggest culprits of hair damage, colar fade, and brittle ends is sun damage. If you're not protecting your hair from the sun's UV rays, the time to start is now. Even though we are more exposed in the summer, don't forget that the sun shines all year long. These tips offer a great start to protecting your hair from the sun. After a long day of sun exposure (trips to the beach, hiking, outdoor sporting activities) it's a good idea to give your hair a nice long hydrating treatment to keep damage at bay and help your hair stay in tip-top condition.

 Try a ARGAN Oil Treatment

I am a huge fan of hot oil treatments to infuse hair with shine and moisture. Hot oil treatments are simple to do right at home. Apply your favorite ArganLife Argan Oil generously to clean, towel dried hair.    Cover with a shower cap or plastic wrap and apply heat using a hot towel (fresh from the dryer), your hair dryer, or sit in the sun on a warm day. After heating the oil, allow your hair to cool at room temperature, and rinse with cool water. Hot oil treatments can be done one to three times per month depending on the amount of damage and how dry your hair is. Too much oil can cause your hair to appear greasy, so be careful not to over-do it.

Do we Treat Male Hair Loss and How Successful is Treatment?

Do we Treat Male Hair Loss and How Successful is Treatment?
In fact genetic male hair loss is by far the most common condition that Belgravia trichologists deal with. Having treated many thousands of males who suffer with male hair loss, we have proven that most men who use Belgravia ’s prescription courses will experience hair loss stabilisation and varying degrees of hair regrowth in a reasonably short period of time. You can see the success of our treatment programmes by viewing our hair loss success stories which include comments written in our comments book, found on theArganlife Shampoo website   and before and during treatment photo-scans.
What is Male Hair Loss?
Male hair loss, otherwise known as Androgenic Alopecia or male pattern baldness, is caused by the effect of the male hormones, called androgens, on genetically predisposed hair follicles (passed down the family tree). For those who are prone to hair loss, within these genetically programmed hair follicles the male hormone ‘testosterone’ is converted into the androgen ‘Dihydrotestosterone’, or ‘DHT’, by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. It is the effect of this DHT that inhibits the growth of new hair cells, which in turn leads to male hair loss and in many cases, eventual baldness.

How our Treatment for Male Hair Loss Works
ArganLife Shampoo’s individually prescribed combination hair loss treatment courses for male hair loss have two main purposes; a) to block the DHT hormone (the cause of male hair loss) from reaching and destroying vulnerable hair follicles, b) to stimulate and increase the blood circulation that is crucially needed to feed and nurture the existing hair follicles that are prone to the effects of male hair loss. Without a good blood circulation the hair follicles will gradually shrink and die.
Still a Mystery
Male hair loss is confined to the area at the top of the head and that is why men who go bald are often left with hair only at the sides and back of their heads. Why these hair follicles are left completely unaffected by male hair loss and the hairs on the top of the head are sensitive to DHT is one of the mysteries of life not yet solved.
Different Stages of Male Hair Loss
These two diagrams represent the different stages of alternative patterns of male hair loss. You can click on the images for a full sized version. ArganLife Shampoo’s treatment programmes are effective for all patterns of hair loss, including thinning of the crown / vertex, or a receding hairline.
